Over the years several potential Eva Cassidy film projects have come and gone. Most of the scripts I saw were terrible, from the point of view of someone who actually knew Eva. So a few years ago, I wrote a screenplay myself, to try to tell her story in an interesting and truthful way.

A dramatized film about Eva Cassidy could be written in dozens of different ways. I chose to write about the eight years that comprised Eva’s recording career, and about the making of the albums that have won Eva such a devoted following. The story and characters are based on my personal knowledge and extensive research, with every effort taken to be factual. Notwithstanding, some characters and events may be composites and may have been fictionalized or invented.

Obviously my original hope was that a movie would be made from this script. Unrealistic, I know. Film people won’t even read it. But after I shared it with Eva’s fans who visit this web site, many of them have told me they enjoyed reading it, perhaps as much as I enjoyed researching and writing it. So, put on some of Eva’s music while you read, and create your own movie in your imagination! You will even discover the mysterious significance of the carrot toy shown above.

Note: In the unlikely event that a movie is ever made based on this script, a ruling premise must be that all the singing is in Eva’s own voice.
