I knew Eva when we were in high school, Her voice is so beautiful and I wish that she didn't have to die. We were very good friends. I feel good that people like her and think that she is special. Her voice is just incredible and I miss her deeply. Thanks to all of her followers. It means a lot to me

My first Eva album was given to me as a birthday present from a really good friend. I fell in love with her instantly! It's so hard to say which one is the best of Eva's songs. They are all so beautiful. She was a beautiful soul and it comes out so strong in her voice and her music. Truly a gift to people who love true and honest music/singing. I wish I knew her when she was alive. I wish more people got to know her when she was alive. I read what Sting had to say about her rendition of Fields of Gold and felt a warmth in my heart for what he had to say and what he felt. I feel that through Eva, we come to realize that music and composition do not 'belong' to someone solely. It is a gift from above because Eva made absolutely something special with all the songs she sang.... God bless her soul. Thank you for keeping this site going. =o)

I could not pick a favorite. That depends upon my mood. I, unfortunately, came to hear of Eva and get some of her recordings only in 2003. If it's true, and I hope it is, that you live on when people remember you and speak of you, then Eva will live forever.

I first discovered Eva when a British DJ (Terry Wogan) featured Eva's 'Over the Rainbow' on his BBC Radio 2 show (which went to No.1 on the British charts) and a friend heard it and talked about it (I am British, but was posted, with my job, to the USA); I immediately bought the 'Songbird' CD. I hope the US realize what an Angel they had! Certainly Britain has taken her to their hearts! Eva has become my favourite. My heart goes out to her parents for losing her; but hopefully some comfort will come from the fact that her talent has been recognized (world wide). Thank you, Lynn McGuire

After hearing the song "Songbird" for the first time I wanted to use this song in a TV commercial. Could someone out there send me information on who owns this song and how to get in contact with them. And by the way, WHAT A VOICE!!! What can I say about Eva Cassidy's voice, no words can give her justice. Eva wherever you are, please keep singing..... Dana

A wonderful friend of mine introduced me to Eva's music and I felt I had found a kindred spirit. As a five year breast cancer survivor at 46, I feel lucky to be alive. Eva's story is an all to familiar one...but in her music she lives on. I recently purchased "Songbird" the story of Eva as told by her friend's and family. Through her music she gives us lasting hope and through her life story we become aware of her contributions to the "physcial world" around us. Eva lives, in her art, her music and all the gifts she has given us. Eva's legacy and art are reminders that each one of us should live everyday on Earth..like it could be our last, taking time to give, share and love all living things. Her passing is only from this Earth...she is still with us in every butterfly, every flower and every "Songbird" her spirit lives forever. We have all been blessed by her gifts.

AMAZING! I fall more and more in love with Eva everyday. I was first introduced to Eva 3 years ago, and since then i've bought 5 of her cds. The girl is wonderful! I shed a tear today to see the pictures and drawings of her with Stevie Wonder (who is my allllll time favorite). Her rendition of Steve's "I Can Only Be Me" is my life's soundtrack :) Many things her and I have in common. She's our angel now, and was ours here on earth. She is all together beautiful.

I was walking in and out of boutiques one day in Ann Arbor MI, when in this one shop, a voice came on stereo....that stopped me in my tracks, the voice of an angel. I asked the sales- person who it was, and she pulls out an Eva Cassidy CD! I hoped I would remember the name by the time I got home. I looked for her CDs in a couple of dept. stores, to no avail. Then a few weeks later an old friend emailed me she and her daughter were going to sing Over the Rainbow at her sister Paula's funeral, ala Eve Cassidy, since Paula had past away from cancer also. Now I had to find a CD!! Fortunately a local music store (thank you Aris' Music!!) had quite a few. My collection is up to 4 in about 3 weeks time, will add Live at Blues Alley shortly. I'm amazed at how Eva's voice has struck at the core of my being. Never has an artist brought me to tears with one song, then laughter with the next. And let's not forget her guitar playing. Her beautiful finger picking on Kathy's Song and Early Morning Rain show how multifaceted she was. I'm sadden that I will never have the oppurtunity to witness this angel in person, yet so thankful that I was introduced to her, and able to introduce her to friends. You may no longer be here with us in body Eva, but your spirit & music will reside with us forever.... thank you so much.

I'd go as far to say while listening to her she almost takes me on a journey and answers life's questions. Beautiful is all I can say. When I first heard Eva, I started crying right away. She' got something that goes right into your heart. I'm a musician and unfortunately, I often can't help listening to music with my brain: hearing harmony, melody, notes, pitch... I love reading tributes to Eva from professional musicians. As I have no musical abilities myself, it's nice to hear confirmation from people who know what they are talking about. I remember especially a female singer from New Orleans who called Eva, "a singer's singer." I've read in the media that audiences are now demanding real artists, as opposed to stage acts, and I believe Eva played a part in this change for the better.

Tony, Songbird is No. 31 on the Danish albums chart. It was No. 19 last week. It has been in the charts for five weeks. The highest position it reached was No. 9. So how is Eva doing here? So-so, I would say. I hope the Nightline portrait will be repeated or that something else will happen that may stir up interest. Else I may have to emigrate... Henrik

I would just like to submit this entry in honor of the memory of Eva Cassidy and her wonderful musical interpretations. I have seen advertisements, especially in my local Barnes & Noble store, but had never bothered to actually listen to the music. One day early last year, they happened to have the Songbird album featured. I listened, but was not prepared for the extraordinary effect the music presented me. It's been a few years since I can remember music having such an effect, emotionally, as I experienced with her music. Such subjective things are not possible to accurately describe for others to understand, but.... Thank you, Eva. -Chris

I think most would agree that Eva is in a 'class of her own' insofar as her music is concerned. I am agreable! A recent article reviewed Krall's latest release, "The Girl In The Other Room", but at the end had this inexplicable need to refer to Eva if the listener wanted a particular kind of music. I don't think this bit of editorializing enhanced the critics work. He would have been more constructive had he written another article, this one an attempt to 'explain' Eva, a task he could never possibly finish. But I would have read it............ Krall was the main feature on the National News last night. Does anyone know what this means! Canada seldom aplauds it's own and, indeed, Krall bashing was a national pastime a couple years back when I was enjoying her so much. CBC TV has given Krall the 'seal of approval' on the people's network. I think Krall, the world's most prolific selling jazz artist of today, is in a class of her own, and I would not divert someone's attention, during her moment, to another. Eva & Krall had some similarities worth a brief mention. They were both blond, sort of short, shy, kind, from musical families, had a passion for nature, and were very close to their Moms. But in their art they go their own way as they should, and I'm neither going to compare them nor favour one over the other. As Eva's Guestbook shows, people should not be shy of expressing themselves for fear of exclusion. Eva probably wouldn't like that!

It was good to hear from Raice that Pet Clark is still in good voice and touring in the States. We went to the same school in Chessington, Surrey, back in the 1940s, although I was a bit younger than her. She lived just round the corner, and as she was already famous I'm afraid we lads gave her a hard time in the park sometimes. I remember her sister (more my age) - a pretty girl with curly hair - whatever happened to her? Like most places in England we had a street party at the end of WW2, and Pet sang "Now is The Hour" for us at the age of around 13 - I don't expect she remembers. I was on the same bill as this superstar, appearing in a silly comedy sketch. I've been making a fool of myself in public ever since (not always intentionally). It's great to hear that Pet is another Eva fan. By the way, I don't think she's 72 until November!

Wow...where do I start? I am a singer/sogwriter and guitarist in my spare time and finding Eva's music five years ago was so liberating to me. For the first time in my life I could call myself a fan of someone. Eva is someone I can respect and a musician who inspires me. I am so grateful to Hugh and Barbara Cassidy for sharing so much of her and making her memories available to any old store in the world to be found by me. There is so much I could say about the precious gift I received when I got to know about a person so like me in heart. "I can only be me", and now I know I'm not the only person like me! Eva has shown me beautiful songs I knew must exist in the world but couldn't find. She has sung them to remind me of what I believe, that even though I haven't experienced a lot of the beauty in God's world with my life, there truely are beautiful people and moments to come. In doing this Eva has given me my muse. God is so good. An artist is lost without something which inspires the heart, and I am looking forward to discovering more about the artist, who's work I have grown to love, on this great site. My thank's again, Hugh and Barbara.

I will never forget the first time I heard Eva sing. It was late, around ten o'clock in the evening and she was on nightline. I really wasn't listening to the stories until I heard the pure angelic voice that just pierced through my soul like no other. You know how when you get goosbumbs when you hear a song and you think to your self...this is it! Well that is how I felt when Eva was on stage and singing over the rainbow. I believe she may have had cancer already because I believe she had a turban on. The the clarity touched my heart so deep that I started crying. I told my husband about it the next day and that day I went out and purchased any CD that had Eva's name on. I have had some experiences where Eva has brought me back from some difficult times and she still does to this day. I was hospitalized last year and I brought all my Eva CD's with me and I know without a doubt she hepled me heal much faster than any Dr's knowledge could ever. Eva, I know you are looking down and just can't believe what your music has done for the thousands of us. I wish you were still phsically here but spiritully you are most definitely around us. I wish I could have known you personally, but for some ironic reason I may have never have heard your music or even have met you. So, although your death was too soon for us to comprehend, you still touch us from the great beyond. And someday, when we meet again in heaven I know when I reach those pearly gates, it will be your voice I hear first, for God only takes the ones HE knows will touch the lifes here on earth and in Heaven. Thank you Hugh and Barb for sharing this wonderous gift with us, for if it were not for you all of us may have never known an angel named Eva Marie Cassidy. You know I can't help but think that although my mother who has passed on is up in Heaven with Eva, getting to know her and telling Eva, "Now I know why my daughter loves you so much." My mother loved to singing and I know she is enjoying Eva's angelic voice as we speak. Thank you Lord for giving us a special, loving soul for such a short a period of time. For that I am grateful. Forever an Eva listener, Sharessa Tackett

I heard Eva's Over the Rainbow on Terry Wogan (UK) and rushed straight out to buy it. I went home, lay on my bed and listened to the CD from the first to the last track and fell in love with her music there and then. I sing for family weddings now, but never professionally and up until recently I was painfully shy which made me feel like I had something in common with Eva. Since the day that I bought Songbird it made me more confident to know that this unbelievably talented lady was once as nervous singing in public as I was and after hearing her story I have Eva to thank for my newfound ability to sing out.

Hiya, I received the Songbird book today and I was simply blown away. I thought the site covered her life pretty well but the book made me laugh and cry. I couldn't put it down and read it from cover to cover. I would highly recommend it to all the fans. It tells you everything told through those that knew her: what she had to deal with at school, the bands she was part of, what she thought of her music, and everything that happened right up to the point she died. The book then tells you of her successes after her death. It really is a wonderful book. It was lovely to read how much her parents, family and friends were so proud of her. Even our webmaster, Laura, has a mention for all the good work she is doing on this site. Thanx Debbie :)

"I almost always tear up during those blissful moments of Eva's songs when I am in complete submission to this precious young woman now gone, but who is seemingly reaching out from beyond, touching me so forcefully, and beckoning me with the legacy she left behind. Eva Marie Cassidy, whose voice and music could have come only from the heavens, is a gift of a lifetime. Eva is a treasure. I too had a fondness for spending time at Tacaro Farms {Fairhaven, MD}. Eva, I wish I had known you, or wish I had 'really' pursued my-own music. Maybe if we had met musically, I could have told you about the time {in the late 70's) when some friends and I went to Tacaro Farm, and up where the "knobby knees" part of the {VERY narrow} road winds, you can see the valley {looking south}. It was down there near that creek, we found two wrecked and abandoned Voltswagons. We pryed the hoods off of them and it was after a really deep snow. We crawed back up the hill, and used the hoods of those two Voltwagons, and went sledding down the hill, and flipped over into the creek. I'm surprised the owners didn't chase us off! Many years after that, I realize that I wasn't the only 'fan' of that farm. I understood that you too went there for contemplation. Lastly, I just want to say Eva that you have made your way into this old pickers' heart. Here at four in the morning, I should be playing Patsy Cline, but now it's mostly you I enjoy. I bet you and Patsy are really givin' 'em a great show up there! All my best Eva. You've really made your Family and Friends so very proud of you. In a similar health battle, I also hope for the courage you've shown. We'll be pickin' together yet! May God hold your loving soul in his arms always.

I bought Songbird and I loved it. I got goosebumps when I heard her sing "Over the Rainbow" I gave it to a friend who listened and she said that she had to stop the car and listen and cried. I heard some of the songs and thought how prophetic, when it talks about remembering and the future. Sting did OK on Fields of Gold but her version is more stirring. It is a shame that such a talent has been extinguished. I have all the CDs and the book about her I am sorry that no new stuff will be available, but I play her at work a lot at my desk. It is almost as if she reaches through the player to grab my attention. Thanks for the intersting reading. I was thrilled to hear her voice in the movie Love Actually. MA

I don't have any of Eve's music...yet. I took my son to get a haircut, and the music playing was of a voice that made me stop reading my magazine, and listen peacefully the entire twenty minutes. I then asked for permission to go through their CDs until I found out who the artist was (the sytlists didn't know who was playing when I asked). I ended up having to pull the CD unit off of the top shelf to get the CD out to find out who it was. Eve Cassidy...never heard of her. I am an instant fan, and will have her music soon in my collection.

Im studying for a music degree at the moment and from all the famous composers and artists that are mentioned throughout the course there is just one person missing.....Eva. I think she is a credit to all young musicians and if there is any one person I can look up to I would want it to be her. I think her music is fantastic and she will live on in many peoples hearts forever.

I don't know anyone who has heard Eva sing that was not an instant fan. I am a local solo singer/guitarist and have never been so inspired. I cry when I think of her and sometimes when I hear her sing. What a talent, I always think of new songs I would have loved to hear her sing and arrange. A sparrow has fallen only to arise as a shinning star that will always twinkle in my life. Love always, Spankey Lee

my sister introduced me to this album, the voice of an angel ringing thru my ears. the song songbird played, i repeated it several times! took my breath away as my eyes swelled up with tears..."for you, there'll be no crying"...amazing voice! when i learned this fantastic artist is amongst the heavens, rather than here on earth, i cried! but, knowing her song lives on in the hearts and souls of all her devoted fans, i smile! anyone who has never heard this outstanding artist, please purchase her material, you will love it all! her angelic voice haunts my dreams, my thoughts, and my soul, and for that i am greatful. i play Eva's music when i'm around my year old neice, i sing along, she will grow up listening to this amazing music and be a future fan as well!

The first time I heard one of Eva's songs, I was so touched by the beauty and serenity of her voice that I had to find out more and more about her and her music. I have now bought three of her albums and have given several as gifts to friends. She touched my life with her special voice, sadly the world lost a very talented young person that will live on through her music.

I too was diagnosed with cancer and was also born in 1963, however I never required treatments and now I am expecting my first child at 40. Everyday I thank God for being alive and in great health. One other thing I am eternally grateful for is that day when I walked in a music store and ask the employee what new artist he could recommend. From that day on I fell in love with the voice of an angel. Thank you Eva....

I'm embarrassed to say that I had never heard about Eva until my friend last weekend let me borrow three of his cd's. I make my living playing music and when Norah Jones songs came out I started singing some of her songs in my shows- my friends tell me I sorta of sound like her, but I don't know. Anyways, when I heard Eva sing I was so excited to hear an artist do her own thing with a style all her own. I think so many artists today get stuck being who their lables want them to be and lose touch with there own voice. I told all my friends about her and how I wanted to start doing some her songs when I was shocked to read that she had passed away. Sad that someone as gifted and she was is only now after her death being recognized for her true talent. I can't put into words how much her music and story has touched me and encouraged me to push my own limits in music to the very top. How awesome that she had a family that loved her as much as you do to keep her music and story alive.God Bless You! recognized

I first heard from Eva Cassidy about 2 years ago, wenn I was looking for new songs for my own band.I am very thankful for getting such beautiful and emotional tracks to hear. Eva is a person you just have to listen to.... It's too sad not to have the possibility to see her once at a live-act, but I'm sure I can imagine how soulful this would have been. Eva, thank you for leaving us such a emotional trace of your wonderful soul. God has blessed you!!! Juliane

I'm a fingerstyle guitar player but did not know Eva Cassidy until a singer I worked with told me about her. She wanted me to accompany her singing "It Don't Matter Anymore". This was a year ago. Now I have almost all of Eva's CDs and just read the book Songbird. I'm telling everyone I know about Eva and her music. Eva was lucky to have her family and friends supporting her. Eva's family and friends are lucky to have had her and her beautiful voice to share. I think I've changed as a person just knowing about Eva. I know she's up there singing for all of us. We are all blessed in that special way. Thanks Eva.

A quick translation of Kai Hedegaard's message: I was drinking my morning coffee on May 20, 2004, when I heard this singing voice coming from my speakers. I tell you it was so pure and clear, I don't think I've ever heard anything so beautiful. I am an old man (78 years) and I have heard many singing voices, good and bad ones, but Eva Cassidy's voice warmed my heart. I felt young again. It is a voice I would dearly love to listen to again.

I Love Eva Cassidy. After I bought all her important CD's and gave away several to friends and family, I began my search for Eva's return. I was watching American Juniors and I heard this beautiful voice and discovered this 11 year old singer with the look of an angel. It wasn't Eva. It was a girl from Lakewood Ranch, Florida signing, "Colors of the Wind." I know this sounds strange but I became so impressed with her voice and appearance that I joined her fan club. I am one of only a handful of fans over 21 that belongs, I guess. I have my own profile and signature. They are little photos and commentaries usually about the singer. The only difference about mine is that it is a photo of Eva Cassidy and a commentary about how Eva and the girl are so intwined in my heart. I've given the address for Eva's site and for Eva's music clips on the internet in my signature. I've posted over the last 12 months probably 500 messages. Both the girl and Eva have the same birthdate February 2nd and the girl may be singing "True Colors' on the CD that is to be released this summer with the American Juniors. This is more than a coincidence I sent her two CD's American Tune with "True Colors" on it and Songbird that is the gold standard for Eva. This girl was the last contesant on the last night of the competion to make the final group of five that represents the American Juniors on the Fox TV network. She sang " I Never Had A Dream Come True," Over 8 million viewers voted that night. Like this website the girl's website is the most popular of the five singers and I would say if you entered her name on Google Search you'd find over 100 articles and web site referrals about her. Like Eva I've written on amazon.com of her singing ability . Her name is Danielle White. Now I have two angels to listen to one in Heaven and one here on Earth!

I first heard Eva's music while visiting a very special man in Dewey Beach, Delaware that I have been dating. May 15, 2004 was the first time. Her voice touches your very soul. We have been so blessed to be able to continue to get to know her by all the information that so many people still continue to write and promote her music. When I returned back to Texas. I looked her up pn the web. and I have purchased all her CD'S and the Songbird Book. I just cannot wait to listen to all of her music, share the special gift of Eva with all of my wonderful friends who love music as much as i do. Let's keep Eva's spirit alive along with her gift she has given us. Sincerely, Debra Alaniz

Everyone that I have exposed to this song has cried the first time they heard it, including me. I have never heard a singer put so much emotion into their music as Eva did. She has an incredible presentation. I feel like she wraps herself around my heart, especially when I listen to her ballads. Good old BBC Radio 2. Parkie (Michael Parkinson)has just played a new British singer, Katie Buckhaven. She has not yet been signed up to a record company, but sent a demo disc into him. She just sings and plays the Guitar (very well), and of course it was a song associated with Eva, Songbird, who was the Queen of this format. Another songstress in the making being promoted by UK national radio. Re-watched the Nightline video on Eva last night. If you haven't yet got it I highly recommend you do. (NTSC format).

Just a plug for BBC Radio (who launched Eva in the UK), and my favourite American author, Bill Bryson. If you go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/monday/, you can listen to his description of his travels through England (Notes From a Small Island, part 1 of 5, more in future weeks). It's very amusing, but don't take everything literally as he has illustrated extremes.

Eva has become my musical inspiration! I'm in the process of collecting all her albums and am half way through the Songbird biography. I'm working right now to get my singing career off the ground, and Eva's music is exactly what I've been searching for. She's soulfoul, deep, beautiful, and intruiging. There's no way to not be completely captivated by her! When I read about her or listen to her, a part of me is sad because I'll never have the profound honor of meeting her or seeing her...but I'm so thankful to have discovered her talent and I plan to share her with as many people as I can. By far, Eva is one of my most favorite voices and I look so forward to discovering more of her music! She's even inspired me to learn to play the guitar! Peace to all, Brittany Rosenthal

Soon after becoming aware of Eva's wonderful talent, I was visiting Canal Winchester, my home town in Ohio. My friends there sat me down and had me listen to this wonderful singer and song. It was Eva and SOMEWHEFRE OVER THE RAINBOW. Sure made me happy that friends back there know of Eva. At the end of the questions part of the site, it mentions SUPPORTING LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. I've been singing every Wed. at Canter's Kibitz Rm. on Fairfax in LA. I play the CD Eva recorded with Chuck Brown a lot on the breaks. We perform jazz/cabaret and have lots of fun. I am always stressing we have to support LIVE ENTERTAINMENT or it's going away. I don't know what will happen with my gig after all these wonderful years, but now the last 2 hours of the night go to punk/rock/loud music. We've just gotta get off our butts and get out, away from the TVs and support the music. Cheers! Tina Stevens

I'm 16 now now and I'm smack bang in the middle of GCSE's! I love music and singing and performing and Eva is such an amazing inspiration. When I listen to her music, I'm able to create my own songs. I performed song bird at a recent concert with my dad on the guitar and another Eva fan said I was amazing. Last year I went through a difficult time with my four year old cousin dying but when I discovered Eva's music for the first time, I could relax and isolate myself from my problems. Not to mention the fact that her music lives on even if she died at a young age. This guest book is obviously a huge success and reminder of how Eva and her music has helped so many people. I'm hoping to perform time and time or fieldds of gold soon as well.

I am in my 60's and first heard Eva's beautiful voice several years ago while washing the dishes with the tv on in another room watching 60 minutes...by the time I got there I missed who was singing...it passed through my mind and another year later almost the exact situation happened, but this time I wouldn't miss who this wonderful singer was and have been a fan ever since and have also introduced her to a friend who has also become a fan...we play Eva every Thursday nite for girls night...we love her and all her music.

My brother sent me an incredible CD of Eva's, but what is eiry to me is that my nephew could be her twin - I am hoping you will write back to me re:the Cassidy family of which you and Eva are from - my Grandfather was born in Canada and his father in Killybegs, Ireland - is it possible we are related? Were Eva's eyes crystal blue -are yours? the clear crystal blue eyes are a Cassidy trait listed in a family geneology album. I look forward to hearing from you....Donna

Dear Laura, What an adventure it is, to seek in to the world of Eva Cassidy. You've made a beautiful page about an inspiring person. Thanks to your engagement, I have everything I need to make a great lecture in english to my school (it's an assignment, my teacher has asked my class and I to do, about whatever we choose. I chose Eva Cassidy of course). My name is Christine, and I'm 14. My family and I are great fans of Eva Cassidy. I wish you the best, Christine.

I heard Eva's voice a year ago while going to a conference with a co-worker, she knew I loved the Wizard of Oz and said listen you'll never hear Over the Rain Bow again like this. She first heard the cd while having chemo for breast cancer and knew Eva died but not sure which type of cancer. I again was in her car going to lunch a year later and she put Over the Rainbow by Eva on again and mentioned she died of a melanoma. I was diagnosed with melanoma in 1997 and was lucky to catch it in time, by chance, thats what happens, if I did'nt my doctor said I would have been gone in 6 months. I heard her sing my favorite song again 3 weeks ago right after another biopsey and found out she died of what I was waiting the results of,again. Thank God it was negitive but I have never heard a voice like hers and the first time I heard her I felt a connection to her not knowing she died or from what. I have lost close family members to cancer, my Mom 2 yrs ago to ovarian cancer, and when I hear my song now it has a new meaning.. Shes over the rainbow too. Eva's voice was silenced to young.. I have already shared the Songbird cd with others and will continue. She had the voice of an angel when she was alive and still it lives on. I only wish there was more to come!!! Your web site is a good way to share how she has effected the lives she never knew.

I found out about Eva Cassidy not to long ago. I found the Cd by accident. I was at a party when the Dj decided to play a game and I won her Cd. That was two years ago. Last year, for choir my teacher made an arrangement of fields of Gold and I loved it! I didnt even know Eva sang it. Not until i was with my mom in the car and the cd came on. I didnt even know how it got in there but out popped Fields of Gold and i told my teacher. It was from her that I first learned about Eva Cassidy. I recently started listening to the Cd since my teacher made an arrangement of autum leaves. I cant stop listening to it either, she had a very touching voice it touches me. Its like you can feel the passion behind her singing. Its just amazing. No one really understands why i like her music but you dont have to understand to see the beauty behind her voice.

There was a get together party in our house in Dec. 2003. One of my housemate Anna sang a song from Eva Cassidy's album songbird. The song was so beautiful that I wanted to know more about it. So, she told me her father and herself is a big fan of Eva. It was first time that I heard about Eva. She gave me Eva's CD album 'Songbird' to listen in my room. Wow! Its very hard for me to express in words the feelings that I have since then. I listen her soul voice almost every day. Very sadly, while I came to know about her tragic life, that was the most painful moment of my life!

I would love to hear from Al and Eva's family as I loved and believed in her in 1992 when I was an aspiring music industry exec. at age 22 years old. I went on to do a lot in the music industry managing several rock bands (5 deals in Hollyood) and then went on to work for Epic Records. I have an amazing early music industry story that would be a great follow-up for dateline. i have early press photos and demos. Original music. There is no better voice than Eva - she sings like an angel and gives so much joy to so many people! But I must tell all fans of Eva about Sheila Gott, she is actually a voice coach but has being touring these past few months - singing a 'Tribute to Eva Cassidy' - and donating a percentage of her tickets to Macmillan nurses. We first saw her at Newcastle City Hall and I cried when I first heard her sing - her voice made the hairs on your neck stand up! We couldn't believe how much she sounded like Eva Cassidy - it was such a treat to hear her. I had been scouring all the local press to try to see if she was playing anywhere else and couldn't believe my luck when I saw she was at Gala Theatre in Durham on 7 June - this was to be her last concert of her tour and it was just as fantastic as the Newcastle show - I certainly cannot wait to see her again and I thoroughly recommend ANY Eva Cassidy fan to see the lovely SHEILA GOTT if you get the chance - you will certainly NOT be disappointed.

I only recently discovered Eva's music while on vacation in Florida..my sister-in-law introduced me to what she thought was her only album....Songbird. I have since discovered she has atleast 5 albums ( CD's ) out with possibly more to come. Her voice is the purest and sweetest I have ever heard...you can feel that her singing came from her soul...it was part of who she was. And in her singing of each song she left you with a gift...your very own...because we all interpret a song in a different way...what it means to each person is different...what was going on in our lives when we heard it...where we were..who we were with..how we relate the words to our own lives...it is personal. When I heard her sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow it took my breath away....soooooooooo beautiful!!! I have now started to add her music to my collection. I love them all but Somewhere Over The Rainbow from Songbird and Bridge Over Troubles Waters from Live At Blues Alley are my 2 VERY favorites so far. What a loss ...she was such a simple and undemanding person...all she wanted to do was sing, paint and do her landscaping...and death came for her so early in her life. Surely an angel is singing....painting our most beautiful sunsets and lanscaping heavens flower gardens.

I was blessed to see a document of Eva- Live at Blues Alley, couple years ago. I was surfing from channel to channel until I stopped to listen her singing- WHAT A AMAZING VOICE! I listened the whole concert and I was truly sad when it ended by telling her tragical story.... Couple years ago there was some big competition on figure skating (don't remember if it was Olympic or World Championship Games). It totally took my breath away when Michelle Kwan showed her very emotional, perfect skills to a music by Eva, singing Fields of Gold. It sounded and looked so, so beautiful... Still getting tears to my eyes when remembering it........ It's very strange how music can touch so deeply inside... Eva's music really did that, and still does! She lives among us by her songs and her voice can remind us about what's good in the world! ..."You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in the fields of gold..." We miss you EVA!!!

It is heartening to see that Eva Cassidy is getting so much positive press recently, mostly in relation to her influence on young artists. She is their inspiration and touchstone. They do their music not in emulation of Eva, but from appreciation and tribute. Collectively, this is a remarkable tribute. They didn't have to do it! It comes from their heart. I have been thinking deeply as to why Eva has such a hold on those of us who continually discover nuances and an undefinable something that puts her in the forefront of modern, contemporary, creative music. She had love in her heart and music in her soul, yet this is not an explaination. As Chris Biondo said, she was not above tugging at the heart strings of an audience when she felt them close to her, but it was more playfulness and humour than any form of self-indulgence.It is easy to say that she was a perfectionist, but it was not perfection she sought. Like other great artists with qualities that can never be explained, Eva was reaching out and holding back at the same time. As a very shy person, Eva was hesitant about exposing herself openly to her audience. So she brought it into a restrained perfection that she was comfortable with. The significance of her painful shyness should not be dismissed, but then to acknowledge it is an excuse for nothing, for it allowed her to approach a creative quality in her performance that is grander than anything I have ever heard from a woman with a guitar to play and voice to sing. One day someone will express this thing I am trying to say in a way that will illuminate us all.

Being seventeen years old, the music flooding my generation's radio waves is nowhere near the beauty and quality that Eva produced with her amazing talent, so I am very lucky to have discovered her by chance. When I heard her voice sing to Ain't No Sunshine in my lyrical dance class a few weeks ago, I was absolutely stunned by her version of the song. It was a total awakening, for me, to hear a voice like that, since I never really have before. Later, we also danced to Time After Time, and after hearing that, I just had to buy her cd. I'm blown away by Eva's talent, and if it were possible for me to choose which voice I'd want in the world, it would be hers, without question. Eva is the most incredible singer I've heard in my lifetime, and I'm forever inspired...

Oh my - I have so, so much to say about this Angel. The first time I ever was blessed with her voice I was sleeping on my couch. I was in a deep sleep, but Eva's beautiful voice brought me out of my sleep. Its not just her voice - she has a power over those who listen to her, especially that very first time. For me it was the very early in the a.m. - Today Show & it was at the very end of Katie Couric's story on Eva. I missed Eva's full name & being half asleep I was unable to remember all the information I needed. I was heart broken that I could not remember all of what I needed to find more information on Eva. I tried for weeks & then God was good to me & I found her. I was so happy. For weeks I had told my sister Cheryl all about Eva & how I was put under a spell when I heard this beautiful voice singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". I kept telling her - You have to hear this voice - she will forever capture your heart, soul & spirit. It was my sister who went out onto the internet & found Eva for me. My sister said she had not seen me that excited in years. I now have every CD that is available. I myself have played guitar for 31 years & I also sing. I play banjo, keyboard, etc., but do not read music - I play by ear - so to speak. I appreciate most of all the fact that I was blessed by finding Eva. Prehaps she found me. I am and always will be one of her biggest fans. To her family & friends - God bless all of you. I can only say that sometimes we do not know why someone is taken from this Earth so young. It is my thought that God needed a beautiful Angel to stand with him in Heaven & that was Eva. We will all meet again one day. God Bless. Debbie from Frederick

I was introduced to Eva by a coworker, my "book buddy", and we read about Eva in a book. Lucy went to check out Eva and found that she was "real", and it all snowballed from there. Eva has spread thru our workplace like wildfire. I'm a cancer survivor, and listening to "Over the Rainbow" is my song of hope, my breath when I need it, "my" song. My 10 yr old daughter Katie has also become an Eva-phile. When I could'nt find my cd, yes, Katie had it in her room, under the covers, listing to 1 and 10 (Yes, mom's favorites are Katie's too)... OTR and Fields... Eva continues to inspire and lift the spirits of people all over the world today. To her family and friends, she's far from forgotten and truly, I think we're about to see a huge awakening of this awesome singer.

Many years ago I read a Spider Robinson story called "The Law of Conservation of Pain" in which a singer is described as follows: "Her name (said the stranger) was Bobbi Joy, and you couldn't say there'd never been anyone like her before. Lots of people had been like her. April Lawton, for instance, was nearly as good a guitarist. Aretha had at times a similar intensity. Billie Holiday surely bore and was able to communicate much the same kind of pain. Joni Mitchell and Roberta Flack each in their own way possessed a comparable technical control and purity of tone. Dory Previn was as dramatic and poignant a lyricist, and Maria Muldaur projected the same artless grace. But you could have rolled them all together and you still wouldn't have Bobbi Joy, because there was her voice. And it was just plain impossible that such a voice could be." Until the day I first heard Eva's voice, I had no idea how a voice must sound like to stir that kind of emotion in me. Of course you all have similar experiences and impressions, but in the past six years I have not been able to get over the fact how apparently effortless and completely natural she manages to let intense emotions sweep through her vocal cords. Thank you for having been with us, your music is a true gift to mankind.

I have bought and given her CD to my friends and family and we all love her voice. It is obvious that everyone's life is one of God's contributions to help other cope and survive. I just got in from the Eva tribute concert at Strathmore. It was wonderfull to be around a group of folks that not only feel the same passion for Eva's music that I do but actually worked with and knew her well. Not only were Pam Bricker, Grace Griffin and Meg Murry there but also Keith Grimes and Raice McLeod accompanied them. The ladies performed various songs from Eva's repitoir. Nightbird, Songbird, Wonderful Word,Let The Good Times Roll,True Colors to name a few. Each of the ladies were truly great in thir own right but it was clear, everyones hat's were off to Eva.

One of my patients gave me a book and a few cd's of Eva's music because I have always enjoyed jazz and blues. I don't consider myself a critic at all but I know that music is something that heals. I have been been going through a lot of unsure emotions lately trying to decide what it is I am going to do with my life and when I heard her voice streaming out of my car cd player I smiled.. A big smile.. and you know how you sing along with a song even though you don't know the words? That is what I did, over and over again. And I continue to smile. If that isn't inspiration I don't know what is.

Let me tell you about the first Eva Cassidy CD I bought. A 30 minute TV documentary about her was shown one evening. I was so touched and impressed by it that I said, "I've just got to buy her music." The next day after work I went to a local music shop and was lucky enough to find the only CD of hers that they had. It was the one called "Imagine" (she sings Lennon's classic on it). I then took it home and did what I like to do with a new CD - sit down and read the insert while listening to it. I usually read the lyrics and descriptions, or whatever is written there. Well, I was sitting at the dining room table with Grethe sitting on the other side, and we listened while I read to myself. Suddenly, while the last song was playing, she looked at me and said: "Are you crying?", and then I startled her by laughing through my tears. It was an odd "happening", and here's why: The last song is the old Irish (although not originating in Ireland http://www.standingstones.com/dannyboy.html ) song "Danny Boy". It's a song of one who is going to die, and her lover will come to her grave. Well, Eva Cassidy also died, and her story is very heartwrenching. While having just read her story, and then listening to her singing those words so beautifully and sensitively, my eyes became moist, and my soul was really moved. Then while I was also reading the short comment on the song, Grethe asked her question, and I started laughing. Why? Well, it was really a coincidence that everything coincided so perfectly. Here is what I read at the moment Grethe spoke: "..... and Eva's "enough to make a grown man cry" rendition of the traditional Danny Boy to close the album." Bingo! I wasn't the only man that had experienced the same thing when hearing her sing that song. And it's not the only one that can do that. There are a few other songs that are also in that category. Her rendition of "Over the Rainbow" is already becoming a classic in some circles, so some people sing the original Judy Garland version, and others sing the Eva Cassidy version. Other songs I just love: Fields of Gold Oh, Had I a Golden Thread I Know You By Heart Fever Tennessee Waltz Cheek to Cheek Fine and Mellow True Colours You Take My Breath Away I Wandered By a Brookside

I've seen the world spin aroung many times in my life. Singers come and go. Some hold my interest more than others. Eva sings from a special place. Listening to Eva is leke being in this special place. Feelings are more intense, Emotions are more difficult to control. Is there a message from all of this? Perhaps the journey to where time stands still. No distractions. Only the sound of Eva's voice and her music enveloping the moment. The hope is there, that I can find someone who can make me feel this way who is here on earth. Danielle White is 12 years old and has this ability. I listen to her sing and I get this emotional release that Eva always gave me. They are both born on February 2nd. Danielle is one of the American Juniors, from the Fox Network competition. I spend my time listening on her website http://www.danielle-white.com/ Gladys Knight calls Danielle, remarkable, a very special talent who feels each song. I must admit I cry when I hear Eva and Danielle. I'm sorry if this seems too unusual. They are both Angels.

Laura hope the concert for Eva on the 16th was a great success. It is still remarkable to know that without all the media hype Eva can still reach out and touch not only the souls of mere mortals but all time greats like Roberta Flack and Shirley Horn who wax lyrical about Eva.I think that now when everything is quiet about Eva is the time that we should be trying harder than ever to promote Eva to the unconverted.

I was watching Love Actually and in a scene they used a song I was familiar with but it was so much better! I wanted the people in the scene to shut up so that I coud hear it! I looked for the music from the movie and came across Eva Cassidy and I am totally floored by her story. I have never heard of her before and I am a big fan of unique music. I was born in 1963 as was Eva and her story touched me a lot. I just ordered the CD Songbird and am anxious to receive it. It's amazing that she has touched so many people and her spirit remains here with us. That is a very special gift! I will come back after I have listened to the CD.

As a songwriter, one experiences writing in different ways. Because of our mutual appreciation for Eva, our song for her came out of us in about a half hour and we felt like it was a small way to give something back to this unbelievable singer who has permanently influenced us, and therefore everyone who is influenced by us. The beat goes on and the song is sung...

What a glorious talented beautiful woman Mrs CASSIDY GAVE TO THE WORLD.What a legacy to leave behind. My only regret was never seeing Eva play. I was diagnosed with ca. in 95 & was given a second chance at life.Sadly my Mum was not so lucky, she died 2 years ago.Hearing Evas voice has brought peace into my heart . Everytime I hear Danny Boy I close my eyes & Mum is with me. It was her fav song & she also could sing it with style.I'm sure Eva & Mum are harmonising in Heaven.Go Girls. Why one person is spared & another is not can never be explained. My heart goes out to her loved ones. Nursing has taught me that The greatest gift of all is to love & be loved. I have found the 8th Wonder of the world ,the ever present Eva Cassidy. She sang with love in her voice, a rare & beautiful gift. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks, my partner of 5 yrs is a devoted fan. His usual material is Metallica, wow, What a Wonderful World. Helen Venables McGOLDRICK aged 44 years young.

Hello. I`ve been visiting, and enjoying, Eva`s guestbook now for several years without contributing to it. The recent poll has finally nudged me into activity(and that takes some doing).I have to say that with all due respect to Eva and her family and friends,I would not like to see a dramatisation of her story. When I listen to her music (daily), I create a mental picture of her performance not having had the benefit of seeing any video footage. I don`t want to listen to her music with the image of another person miming to it. Eva`s mother, if quoted accurately, implied that she would prefer a documentary to dramatisation (forgive me if I have misquoted this). We have the music; we have the book. Eva used her imagination to colour her music and her artwork. Perhaps we should use ours in our appreciation of her life, but of couse this is only my own personal opinion. Best wishes to you all out there, especially to Eva`s family and friends.

I don't know where to start, but from the beginning I guess is good. I'm originally from Calgary Alberta Canada and since I've been introduced to Eva, I've listened to her constintly. She puts me through emotions that I have never felt before!! My hairs on my arms literally stand up on end every time I hear her. I can't seem to get enough of Eva. Every emotion I feel seems to run through my veins (almost like she is speaking to me! -- Kinda weird, but true). I went to visit my Aunt in Phoenix, AZ and she bought an Eva Cassidy CD (Songbird), and told me I have to listen to it. So I did. I called my husband and said "You have to hear this!!" As I played a song to him over the phone he said this is the most dynamic vocalist I have ever heard!! We play Songbird constantly. There are no words that seem to describe her voice, her message -- anything. All I can say is.....I wish I could hear more.

Mrs. Nature decided to terminate the proceedings, but everyone was very patient and good-humored about it. C'est la vie. Personally, I was honored to finally play with two DC ladies of song I have admired for many years, Grace Griffith and Pam Bricker. I confess to hoping I'll have the opportunity again one day. It was also wonderful to hear Meg and Jeff. I thought they sounded superb. (Strong recommendation to local music fans: go hear any of these people. You will not be disappointed.) I was chatting with my buddy in Philly last night and we were commenting about Eva and her unique and rare ability to sing so effortlessly with such an emotional charge as to transcend the experience to a different musical and spiritual dimension. I advised him that there is serious discussion about a movie about Eva's life in the near future. I have read some excellent posts about why this may not be a good idea and agree to a large extent with the cons. The negative for me is who out there could possibly do justice to her life? The movie would be an overwhelming hit for all of the reasons her music is loved by all posthumously provided of course that the Producers could find THE actress who coud bring out the soul and sensitivity of this amazing woman. The story speaks for itself. So I think it would be interesting to hear if her admirers have some strong candidates. To that end, I recommend that a poll on the Web page be introduced soliciting her fans input. My position is, if there is a woman out there who can do the deal, than the movie must be made as great art waits for no man! God Bless, Jim P.

Its very, very unusual for me to listen to these types of songs, and as someone suggested in the posts, Eva's song does trancend age...but to add...culture, race and religion. It was by chance that i managed to hear her angelic voice. The moment i heard it...2 hours ago..i knew i had to get her CD. But it seems no one has it here in my country. Even my friends, who are into trance and house music actually stop to listen. I just can't seem to explain what her voice does to someone. Buying a CD from Amazon is seriously too expensive for me. I just hope that someone will bring the CD in. I'm actually a chinese and buddhist....and her song...has seriously touched me. Thank you Eva, may your voice touch others as it has touched mine. I've been living here in the "Near Northside" of Downtown Chicago for about six years now. I think it was back in early '99 I became aquainted with a VERY IRISH, Irish Pub down the street. Celtic Crossings. made a lot of friends there and eventually went to work part time there. One afternoon the manager said, "give a listen to the next tune". It was Eva's "...Rainbow"! When it was over, you could have"knocked me over with a feather!" Then I checked ou the jukebox to see, who was that!? Next surprise, Eva CASSIDY...That's my last name, Cassidy... Now, I have seven of Eva's CDs and a book of pic's and info (over 150 pages) my daughter put together for me and now this book "Songbird", which I just purchased. I'm sixty five years old and I've seen and done quite a bit in this life, so far. But I still shed tears to many of Eva's songs. Tears of sorrow, pleasure and love. Eva, your music IS being heard and loved as you are loved. God bless all, C. Tom Cassidy p.s. Eva film, 2004? Does Hugh recall any relations (could go way back) in Illinois?
